A new outback creature has been discovered in Western Australia's northern goldfields. The "sedgehog" is similar to the more commonly known hedgehog of Europe, and was so named for it's reedy appearance. They feed on ants and termites, like echidnas, but also eat other insects and seeds, making them true omnivores. Unlike echidnas, they are not marsupials, and have one of the highest operating body temperatures of all mammals, hence they can be found sunning themselves, even on hot days.
